JENNIFER BELL EDUCATION FUND SCHOLARSHIPS ~ 2006

Werribee Secondary College is pleased to announce the establishment of the Jennifer Bell Education Fund.  This Foundation has been established by a private benefactor to promote academic excellence and to assist students to complete their studies.

The scholarships are very substantial and are available only to students enrolled at the College in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12.  The scholarships are awarded to students with a record of exceptional academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to their studies.

Scholarships will be awarded to students at the end of Years 9, 10 and 11 for the subsequent twelve-month period.  Year 12 recipients will receive their scholarship for the three years of their tertiary studies.

The scholarships available are:

Year 10 - up to 7 scholarships at $1,000 each

Year 11 - up to 7 scholarships at $1,200 each

Year 12 - up to 7 scholarships at $1,500 each

Tertiary studies: there are 3 or 4 scholarships at $15,000 each ( 3 x $5000 per year )

Scholarships for Years 10 – 12 are awarded to students who apply for the scholarship and sit a written test.  The selection of award recipients will be based on the results of the testing, the student’s record of academic achievement and a number of other factors consistent with high level general commitment to education and the College.

The tertiary scholarships will be awarded to current Year 12 students who achieve exceptional performances in their VCE studies.  Year 12 students will need to apply to be considered for a scholarship.

January 2007 … Recipients of the scholarships are formally presented at a College Assembly.

Expectations of Scholarship Recipient
Students who are awarded a Jennifer Bell Education Foundation Scholarship will be required to:

Maintain levels of excellent academic achievement

Attend the formal presentation ceremony on 1 December (in full College uniform)

The scholarship may be withdrawn if these conditions are not met by the recipient.

We hope that you agree that these scholarships are quite substantial and offer valuable support to students wishing to continue their studies.  We would like all parents to discuss these scholarships with their children and to encourage them to apply.
