SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Like Achievement Groups

Students in Years 8 to 10 who are not part of the Select Entry Learning Program are placed into groups with students who are working at similar levels of achievement.  The placement of students is reviewed at the end of each semester and students can be moved to a different group based on their academic achievements.

Foundation Programs offer a heavily modified program for students with very low levels of achievement.  The program for students in other like-achievement classes is altered to suit the level of achievements in the group.  At Year 9, the highest achieving students study an accelerated course in History and Geography and at Year 10 these students study either VCE History or VCE Geography.

Integration Program (Program for Students with Disabilities)

A number of students have been formally assessed (typically whilst in Primary School) as in need of special assistance.  In 2007, approximately 10 students received additional funding and an Individual Education Plan was developed for each student.  The plan was developed / monitored at Program Support Group meetings held each term.

Literacy and Numeracy Program

The College tests all of its Year 7 students using the TORCH Comprehension Test, the PATMaths Test and the South Australian Spelling Test.  The data from the tests is compiled and provided to English / GEMS and Mathematics teachers to assist them in working with the students.  The data is also used to monitor the development of literacy and numeracy within the student population.  The data is also used at Year 7 to help inform the placement of students into Like Achievement Groups for Year 8.
